Video Distribution
Fisbhen said the most effective way to distribute video content to students is to pay attention to which media they use to learn.
He said in his case, he needed to use social media to distribute video content to students.
“I realized I needed to be where they are, on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,” he said. “Use social networks for different reasons. Use Twitter to ask questions, YouTube for live or prerecorded videos, Facebook to post content that is relevant.”
Engagement:
Fisbhen said online learning instructors have to pull out all the stops when it comes to keeping students connected to their class.
He said one of the main ways to keep online learning students engaged is through fun.
“The more fun class is, the more engaged the kids are,” he said. “When it’s live and fun, it’s even better. Try to build an environment, even if it’s virtual, where everyone can participate. Start small. When kids start having fun, they type they’re laughing; when they do that, they’re engaged.”
However, Fisbhen said having fun present in class is only one piece of the puzzle. He said instructors need to balance it with consistent communication with students.
“You can’t rely on fun teachers to make it work,” Fisbhen said. “Shoot students an SMS that said, “important showing in five minutes.” Use an app to push notifications, make sure people enroll and want information on different subjects. Build this engine to make it work for you and make the students engaged. You have to build an image to keep the kids coming back.”
Fisbhen said once online instructors take these steps to their video approach to online learning, student understanding and success will follow.
