Citrix and Microsoft are deepening their partnership to bring new integrations to Microsoft’s cloud PC offering, combining Citrix’s high-definition user experience technology, IT policy control and ecosystem flexibility with Windows 365.

The companies say the expanded partnership and new integration between Citrix high definition user experience (HDX) technology and Windows 365 is designed to give IT administrators streamlined Citrix user licensing and employees a seamless switching experience to Citrix clients through Microsoft Endpoint Manager and windows365.microsoft.com.

The solution, currently in development and available later this year, will help users of both systems access their persistent, cloud-hosted Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktops from anywhere on any device.

According to Citrix, the integration builds on the secure streaming of apps, content and settings from the Microsoft cloud to any device, and the company’s own strength in virtualization technologies to enable IT to give users an enhanced work experience on Windows 365 cloud PCs.

In addition to switching to Citrix clients through windows365.microsoft.com, the integration optimizes voice and video performance for multimedia applications, provides a high-definition, interactive experience across a range of endpoints and peripherals, gives IT more control over security and integrates with third-party identity solutions, according to Citrix.

With Windows 365, the combined solution includes the power of Microsoft Azure and the capabilities of Windows desktops to stream a full Windows experience securely to any device thanks to Citrix HDX’s ability to “optimize the delivery of high-end graphics and multimedia; broad endpoint devices, identity provider, unified communications vendor and peripheral support; and adaptive network compression technology,” Microsoft says in a Tech Community blog.

Microsoft says the integration builds on a decades-long partnership between the two companies based on helping IT support their organizations, including meeting the needs of an increasingly distributed workforce.

“Citrix and Microsoft are committed to delivering industry-leading solutions to enable secure, remote work” says Calvin Hsu, vice president of product management at Citrix, in a statement. “This joint engineering effort brings unique Citrix high-definition technologies to end users and sophisticated management controls to IT, extending the value of Cloud PCs.”
