Along with over a dozen bug fixes, Microsoft has added several new features to its Windows 11 Build 22000.526 for Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels, including support for Windows Hello for Business Cloud Trust.
In a blog post outlining the new features and improvements, Microsoft calls Windows Hello for Business Cloud Trust a new deployment model for hybrid deployments of Windows Hello for Business. The company says it uses the same technology and deployment steps that support on-premises single sign-on (SSO) for Fast Identity Online (FIDO) security keys.
This removes the public-key infrastructure (PKI) for deploying Windows and simplifies the Windows Hello for Business deployment experience, Microsoft says.
Windows Hello for Business is designed to increase the security of devices by replacing passwords with strong two-factor authentication that includes a new type of user credential tied to a device and a biometric or PIN, according to Microsoft.
For Teams, Microsoft added the ability to quickly share open application windows directly from the user’s taskbar to a call, as well as the ability to instantly mute and unmute a Teams call from the taskbar.
The latter feature includes an active microphone icon that will appear on the taskbar, giving users the ability to control muting without having to return to the Microsoft Teams call window.
Microsoft says it opened Microsoft Office files that are in the Start menu’s recommended section in the browser, which will occur if the device does not have an appropriate Office license and the file is stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. When there is a license, the file will open in the desktop app instead.
Other user interface and taskbar features include adding the time and date to the taskbars of other monitors and weather content to the left side of the taskbar.
Windows 11 became generally available late last year.
