Since then, White says his team met with the emergency alert group and chief of police, and emergency alerts are now an integral part of the campus’s digital signage features.
“A lot of times, the technology that’s already been in place, such as digital signage or cable T.V. networks, is operational but underutilized, and it’s just one person who’s responsible for getting this content out over all these technologies. We help remove that burden by aggregating that content, curating it and distributing it, saving them hours and hours of time. That’s how we’re able to benefit UNH and all of the other colleges within the Orca network.”
– Rajiv Shenoy, CEO of OrcaTV
“We weren’t technically mature enough to have a robust integration with our emergency alert system and this new digital signage system,” he says. “As I started to talk to OrcaTV I knew I had a partner that could help me and was skilled from doing this in other universities. They could ask the right questions and speak with the right people to integrate emergency alerts.”
2) Display more content
White says OrcaTV has enabled UNH to showcase the most content it’s ever displayed in its history.
Contributed content is coming in from all departments on campus, including recognized student groups.
White says this increased student engagement on campus, especially when social media outlets, like Facebook, are displayed.
“If I look at the content that’s on the signs, I know that it’s really rich right now,” he says. “I know students are looking at the screens now because they might see themselves as sort of a celebrity on campus. But, they also will look at the other content that we want them to look at, maybe drive them to an event they’ve never thought about going to or some sort of career services resource, like how to improve your resume.”
3) Better content management
OrcaTV has also made it easier for UNH’s administration to post content.
Shenoy says that before, administrators had a tough time sifting through content to check for appropriateness, and decide how, when and where that content would be displayed.
Now, he says OrcaTV takes care of all those things.
