Speech recognition and transcription provider Otter.ai has launched a new live video captioning services for videoconferencing calls and webinars on Zoom.
The integration with the two popular platforms builds upon an existing relationship between the two that enables Zoom participants to open a secure, live, interactive transcript directly from a video call or after a meeting. Otter for Events was recently introduced for webinars and virtual events to create live transcripts.
Otter.ai is an intelligent audio transcription service — popular with journalists — that uses artificial intelligence to process speech from imported audio.
For users with Otter for Business and Zoom Pro subscriptions, an option to use captions for live video calls and webinars will now appear within the Zoom app.
According to Otter.ai, the feature is designed to remove miscommunication problems that may arise during the course of remote work as the COVID-19 pandemic stretches late into the year. For example, if remote workers are having audio problems or get distracted by something in their home office, they can always refer back to the transcript to make sure they didn’t miss anything important.

It also helps support organizations that do business with entities that speak a different language and helps organizations comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Live video captioning is another feature which makes Otter Live Notes a must-have business communications and collaboration product,” said Sam Liang, CEO, and founder of Otter.ai. “By adding this new feature, Otter.ai removes the significant problem of miscommunication from remote work, heightening organizations’ productivity and efficiency.”
Otter.ai and Zoom in April announced Otter Live Notes for Zoom in April that enabled a live interactive transcript during or after a call, and shortly after released Otter for Events for webinars and virtual events.
Combined, Otter.ai now provides a full suite of live captioning and transcript services for Zoom calls, webinars and virtual events.
