Microsoft and Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, have announced new integrations designed to help organizations using Microsoft Teams and the social media company’s Workplace collaboration platform communicate with employees.

The integration, according to Meta, will give employees access to content from Workplace within Teams without having to switch back and forth between the apps.

According to the companies, the integration aims to make it easier for employees to state up to date with important information as well as open more opportunities for company-wide feedback and engagement.

The companies are also adding the ability to stream from Teams Meetings into Workplace groups, which will allow employees to watch live meetings and events on whichever app they are using or catch up later by watching a recording on Workplace.

Jeff Teper, corporate vice president of product and engineering for Microsoft Teams, said in a statement that customers use more than one tool to get work done, so it is the responsibility of software providers to make sure the tools can integrate and interoperate with each other.

“We have a shared vision of offering our customers choice and flexibility, so it made sense for us to come together to help our mutual customers unlock collaboration and break down silos within their organizations,” Teper said.

The integration extends the relationship between the companies’ enterprise workplace tools, which currently includes the ability to integrate Workplace with SharePoint, OneDrive and the Office 365 Suite.

Meta also offers an Azure AD integration for Work Accounts to help businesses manage their Meta tools, and last month announced that Microsoft Teams would be available on the Meta Portal platform in December.

The integrations are free for Teams and Workplace customers, and organizations will be able to stream meetings and broadcasts from Teams into Workplace starting next year.

The announcement included feedback from several customers, including Vodafone, Flight Centre Travel Group and Lockton, who have been trailing the integration.

Nick Williams, head of digital workplace at Flight Center Travel Group, said the company’s agents use Workplace to connect with colleagues beyond their direct coworkers, and the Teams integration will foster more collaboration among the company’s employees.

“By creating a bridge between our company’s community hub (Workplace) and teamwork hub (Teams), employees will be able to access the most important information, whether they’re in an office or in the field, and feel connected at all times,” Williams said.
