Zoom has exploded in usage and popularity due to the surge in remote work and videoconferencing due to coronavirus-induced lockdowns and quarantines. Padilla says the platform now has 300 million daily active users compared to just 10 million earlier this year.

Padilla lays out a number of steps the company has taken — and is taking — to address security and data privacy issues that arose as a result of the platform’s popularity.
Zoom is currently working on end-to-end encryption and other security features, but is also eyeing ramping up development of productivity like enhanced chat functions once its 90-day security plan is over.
