Starting Monday, Microsoft has opened the Microsoft Edge Addons store for submissions for all developers, the company announced in a blog post.
The store will be where users can find extensions for the new Microsoft Edge, which is expected to be generally available on Jan. 15.
Extension submissions can already be submitted by vising the Partner Center Developer Dashboard.
Starting today, Microsoft will no longer accept new submissions for Microsoft Edge Legacy extensions, but will accept updates for existing extensions.
“We recommend you prioritize building new extensions for the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, and continue to support your existing EdgeHTML-based extensions to ensure a quality experience for active users,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post.
Developers who have authorized Microsoft to migrate their EdgeHTML extension listings to the new Microsoft Edge will begin to see their extensions available in the new Addons store.

According to Microsoft, most existing extensions built for Chromium will work without any modifications in the new Microsoft Edge.
Starting Jan. 15, Microsoft will migrate users’ extensions from the current version of Microsoft Edge when the update to the new version, but only if those extensions are already available on the Addons store at the time of switching to the new browser.
Microsoft said developers should update existing EdgeHTML extensions for Chromium and publish them via a new portal as soon as possible to eliminate interruptions when customers update.
The company first announced about a year ago that it was adopting the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge on the desktop to create better web compatibility for customers and less fragmentation of the web for all web developers.
Users can view Microsoft’s initial developer documentation now, and more will be coming soon, the company said.
