Videoconferencing platform BlueJeans is rolling out new features that help the platform keep pace with competitors like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, including enhanced security and time management features.
In a blog, senior product manager Mahabaleshwar Bhat said the improvements were driven by rising customer demand for “more natural collaboration and secure engagements” as the world continues to adjust to remote work.
Security
- All video, audio and content in transit will be encrypted using AES-256 GCM encryption for improved security and faster performance. Zoom also recently upgraded to that same encryption standard with the release of Zoom 5.0.
- A restricted meetings feature provides additional authentication modes for restricting meeting access to ensure that only invited participants can join the meeting. A unique one-time passcode is provided that can be authenticated via email or logging into a BlueJeans account.
- A waiting room feature will provide meeting hosts with better controls for managing who is admitted to meetings.
- Administrators can control who has access to screen share at enterprise, individual and per-meeting levels so hosts can prevent unwanted screen share takeovers.
- Hosts can secure meetings and prevent unwanted guests from joining with a one-click button at the top of the screen.
Productivity
- An enhanced integration with Slack automatically populates any private Slack channel with a Smart Meeting summary to share key meeting details, including number of highlights and action items.
- Single-click access for raise hand, clapping, thumbs down/up and drop the mic gives all meeting attendees tools they need to engage with each other, similar to how coworkers interacted in the office. Emojis are also supported in the chat.
- BlueJeans is also giving users the ability to choose their own background image and is partnering with Shutterstock to provide a preloaded set of images.
- Available as a meetings add-on, non-meeting participants can scan a post-meeting transcript without having to sift through the recording.
