Microsoft is releasing an update to the Office cloud policy service designed to make it easier for IT admins to manage policies for Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise and other products and services.
The Office cloud policy service allows admins to enforce policy settings for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise on a user’s device, even if the device isn’t domain joined or otherwise managed. The service is part of the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center and includes many of the same user-based policy settings available in Group Policy.
Policy settings roam to a user’s device when they sign into Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise on a Windows, macOS, iOS or Android device, but not all policy settings are available for all operating systems. Admins can also use the Office cloud policy service directly in the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, under Apps > Policy > Policies for Office apps.
According to Microsoft, the update includes a wizard to help guide admins through the process of creating a policy configuration with improved slicing and filtering capabilities and added support for including in-line hyperlinks to additional documentation in policy descriptions where available.
When admins create or edit a policy configuration, they will be guided by a step-by-step approach to policy configuration with an updated policy list that provides new slicers and filters to help find the right policies.
Also new is a policy configuration layout that helps admins focus on the configuration options available for a specific policy while also providing links to additional documentation directly in the policy description to make it easier to find associated documentation.
Microsoft says many more Office cloud policy services updates are planned for this year as the company works to improve usability and add additional features to make it easier to manage policies for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, products and services.
