Wellness, team building and culture have suffered
Microsoft’s Work Trends Index has found that a majority off-site employees feel left out, and virtual team-building exercises haven’t cut it.
According to the report, 59% of hybrid employees and 56% of remote employees say they have fewer work friends since the shift, and 55% of hybrid workers and 50% of remote workers feel lonelier than before leaving the office.
Attempts to fix these issues have not gone well, as 66% of respondents say doing virtual informal coffee chats feels like more than a chore than a team-building exercise.
Other parts of the report highlighted the importance of mental health and wellbeing, as 42% of employees say that is an important part of an employer’s culture. Microsoft calls these ideas “non-negotiables” that companies can’t afford to ignore, so employers need to find new, creative ways to engage remote and hybrid employees.
