Organizations have to listen to their employees about where they want to work

One of the prevailing themes of Microsoft’s research was that employees have more power than ever to determine the role of the office.

According to the report, 53% of employees are more likely to prioritize their own health and wellbeing over work than before the pandemic, and 52% of Gen Z and Millennials are likely to consider changing employers this year, which is up 3 percentage points year over year.

The pandemic has shifted employees’ thinking to focus more on their personal lives, with 17% and 18% of employees leaving their jobs in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Mental health and a work-live balance were the top two reasons given for quitting.

The research also found that the biggest challenge for hybrid employees is knowing when and why to come into the office, but just 28% of leaders have created hybrid work policies that define those scenarios.
