Built-In Is Getting Better

Instead of incorporating technology as an add-on in a classroom, schools and colleges are having technology built into them.

Brown says schools and colleges are getting more strategic with where within the classroom technology is installed. For example, schools used to have technology, such as lecture capture, or a video solution, installed into the auditorium – “the biggest, most expensive” room in the building.

However, history has shown that this technology is never used.

“Then it happens where nobody ever schedules a class there,” Brown says.

Instead, what’s happening now and what is predicted to continue happening is schools and colleges putting technology in smaller spaces, including classrooms, and straying from installing technology in auditorium-sized spaces. Brown says implementing solutions in these smaller spaces enables a school or college the bandwidth to install more, or the option to expand in the future, while still keeping up with students’ demands.

Some technology, including lecture capture solutions, will continue to be a classroom priority, and will be a solution that may need to keep expanding in the future. Students are already looking for those types of solutions now, and will expect those options to help them learn in years to come.

“Because what student isn’t worthy of having access to the lecture they were in?” Brown says.
