Increased Comfort With Technology
Instructors are also working to increase their comfort with utilizing technology in the classroom.
For instance, Brown says higher education instructors are under a hot lens, especially while teaching in front of their students. If an instructor fumbles with a classroom’s technology, such as setting up a lecture capture solution, students won’t be impressed, and might feel like their time is being wasted.
“It’s a lot to put yourself out there as a faculty member,” Brown says. “They’re the ones who are putting themselves on camera, on the internet, and there’s a vulnerability to doing that…Today, because of the internet and the ability to electronically fill out surveys, etc., professors are being rated every quarter, every semester by students already, and now [with lecture capture] we’re going to add this element where every word they’ve said is available. They just want to do a good job.”
