Replacement: Smart Phones

Smart phones have replaced many technologies, even as a tangential factor to many of the technologies on this list. None were so ravaged by the invention of smartphones as pagers. Why page someone to call you when you could simply call them? Bag phones went the same way – much easier to hold a phone in your pocket than to carry it around in a suitcase. Most cars come with Bluetooth that allows you to make calls over your speakers while driving, so car phones disappeared as well. That doesn’t even mention the addition of texting, which provided the ability to send short, ineffective messages back and forth to one another over hours which could have been handled with a ten minute phone call.
