VMware has released two new offerings, vSphere+ and vSAN+, to help organizations enhance their on-premises infrastructure with the benefits of the cloud by providing centralized cloud-based infrastructure management, integrating Kubernetes and access to new hybrid cloud services.
According to the company, vSphere+ and vSAN+ come via a flexible subscription model. They are designed to help organizations accelerate their transformation by bringing the benefits of cloud computing to their existing on-premises infrastructure and workloads.
In a press release, VMware calls both solutions an integral part of its VMware Cloud strategy to deliver consistent infrastructure with value-added capabilities across distributed environments.
Essentially, vSphere+ and vSAN+ will allow organizations to activate add-on hybrid cloud services that deliver on key use cases for business-critical applications running on-prem, including disaster recovery and ransomware protection.
The new offerings will allow customers of all sizes to consume new capabilities, security updates and product updates at a much faster pace, in addition to simplifying operations without having to make changes to existing applications or hardware.
According to VMware, vSphere+ and vSAN+ provide unified infrastructure management for organizations with distributed environments via the VMware Cloud Console, with features such as global inventory, configuration, alerts, administration and security status for on-premises deployments. IT admins can perform certain operational tasks directly form the console, including managing configurations and policies across their deployments.
In addition, the company says customers will get a more simplified lifecycle management experience with cloud-enabled automation of on-premises updates, as well as cloud-based remediation and configuration drift capabilities and security checks.
vSphere+ offers developer teams a single workload platform for running virtual machines and containers orchestrated by Kubernetes, helping to transform on-premises infrastructure into an enterprise-ready Kubernetes platform, the company says.
“This includes providing a multi-cloud IaaS consumption experience for developers by extending the capabilities of VMware Tanzu Standard Runtime to enable developers to run and manage Kubernetes at scale with consistency and efficiency across on-premises, public clouds, and edge,” VMware says in a press release.
The new solutions will also enable organizations to adopt a subscription-based consumption model for their on-premises deployments. The offerings will come in a single SKU that includes VMware vCenter, VMware ESXi, Tanzu Standard Runtime, and Tanzu Mission Control Essentials.
