Odom also says the Mondopads are also playing a significant role in the university’s distance learning capabilities, especially with its videoconferencing features.
Prior to investing in Mondopads, Odom says Brenau University used to cancel some of its distance learning classes because the school did not have the technology to support those classes.
“The most challenging parts of the installation process were accommodating Brenau University’s class schedules and the logistics of deploying Mondopads across four campus locations in Georgia and Florida. We overcame these challenges by creating a well-defined design and implementation plan to ensure each campus’ install would be complete in one day, minimizing disruption of existing class schedules.”

He says the school often failed to deliver the educational experiences that students paid for.
“Before, they’d have to cancel the class for the person in Augusta because there wasn’t a professor who could be down there for it,” Odom says. “It was frustrating for students and the instructors too, because they can’t be in two places at once, and the students pay a lot of money to come here, and then they don’t get what they expected.”
Now, he says the Mondopads enable instructors to communicate with and include students on the university’s remote campuses in class discussions.
Odom says both students and instructors are happy with their experiences utilizing the Mondopads.
“The instructors interact more with students on remote campuses and online students because we have Zoom installed on the Mondopads to do multiparty videoconferencing,” he says. “We can have an instructor here at the Gainesville campus teaching students in the classroom, but also teaching students in North Atlanta and Jacksonville, wherever, and they can all be interactive together.”
Sidebar: Odom says Brenau University purchased another pan-tilt-zoom camera to further boost the videoconferencing experience.
“We’ve got another InFocus pan-tilt-zoom camera that we mounted in the back of the room and it’s just extended over the CAT5 with a USB,” he says. “That way, for the remote students, it’s like they’re actually in the class and they see the instructor and the whole class. They get a quick scan of the classroom.”
