NEC Display Solutions

NEC’s large display solutions are either professional or commercial-grade LED –backlit LCD displays. They can be mounted in any space on a college campus, including hallways, lobbies and cafeterias, and used for displaying a college’s logo, food menus, announcements for the next sports events, and more. Each display is featured in either the X Series, P Series, V Series, E Series, and Large E series, with size ranges from 40” to 90”. Plus, most of the displays feature ultra-thin bezels for a nearly seamless image.

“It’s as close as you can get without the glass touching,” said Rich Ventura, Vice President of Product Marketing and Solutions for NEC.

appspace

appspace displayed its Appspace Display solution at EduComm. This solution is a communication platform than delivers content to any device, anywhere. Users can also use the platform to tune into channels of their choice, create their own live channels and stream video on demand. Colleges can use the platform for faculty training, welcome messages, and connect to computers to control the content available on a desktop.

“You know what’s happening on campus,” said Anthony Woods, Director of Enterprise Accounts for appspace. “You can use it on any site. It’s a powerful space.”

Peerless-AV

Peerless-AV’s digital kiosk solution provides wayfinding features for campus visitors and new students. It provides menus for users to navigate through and locate when and where their meeting is, and displays a map to help users find their way. The solution also sends directions to users’ mobile device for directions on the go. The kiosk body can also be personalized with the school’s colors and logo.

Visix

Visix’s MeetingMinder Room Signs provide a digital solution in place of the traditional paper sign indicating when a room is being used. This solution enables users to interact with a room schedule, book a room immediately, or book a room in the future. Users will know a room is in use when the light on the side of the digital sign is red, and will know a room is free for use when the light is green. These signs also clean up visual pollution caused by dangling cords and provide cost savings on energy by their battery-power; the signs will run off of up to 10,000 hours of battery life before new ones are needed.

People Driven Performance

People Driven Performance featured its interactive digital display at EduComm. This solution enables users to boost internal communications with a digital metric system based off of the “target” metaphor. It also displays short clips of content structured similar to quick news stories, which can focus on employee biographies, company news and outside media.

wePresent WiPG

wePresent’s Share Pod enables instructors to wirelessly deliver a presentation by connecting a device of their choice to the pod. The solution can connect with any HDMI, and does not need anything downloaded or any software. Instructors can also use the Share Pod to connect their device to a projector or TV display, and utilize the conference control feature to manipulate the presentation. The pod supports the devices of guest speakers and substitute teachers, and BYOD policies.

FourWinds Interactive

FourWinds Interactive’s interactive digital sign enables users to create signs faster, and with more content. With the solution, users only have to type in a college’s name, and the system will pull content from the web (including social media and the school’s website) to create a new sign. Users can add filters so that inappropriate comments or hashtags are syphoned out; in case inappropriate content sneaks onto the signs, the system enables users to go in and edit out that content.

The first annual EduComm Expo introduced a new wave of digital display solutions.

Some vendors, like NEC Display Solutions, featured traditional digital signs with thin bezel sizes for an optimal, nearly seamless image. Peerless-AV showed its kiosk solution for improved wayfinding capabilities, and Visix displayed digital meeting room signs that enable students and instructors to book rooms for classes or study sessions.

wePresent WiPG showcased its Share Pod product, which allows any students or instructor to connect a device of their choice for a presentation. appspace featured its cloud-managed signage system for safety and security, weather updates, and departmental branding. FourWinds Interactive showed off its signage solution, which enables users to build signs faster with content pulled from social media.

People Driven Performance showed its interactive digital display, which provides an outlet for users to pull up metrics and improve internal communications.

Dennis Dotson, president of People Driven Performance, said that a good display solution triggers instant understanding through its content, builds community with users and provides personalization opportunities.

He said a display solution is most successful when it draws in an audience, and connects people.

“If you’re looking to build communities, it’s all about telling stories,” Dotson said at the show. “The shortest distance between two people is a story.”
