Video Conferencing VS. Audio Conferencing

As the battle for control of conference communication wages on, many are forced to choose sides: audio or visual. There are many guardians of good collaboration in the galaxy but destroyers of effective teamwork abound.

The Distracted One

This clone need things repeated time and time again. If he spent more time paying attention he might be able to hit the target afterward. Instead he almost always misses.

The Yeller and The Late Arriver

The yeller lacks the ability to control the volume of his voice and shouts everything he says, causing you to reach for the volume button. The late arriver can be quite helpful in a tight situation, thought he often shows up after most of the battle is over.

The Mumbler

Whether it’s under the breath negativity, praise or new ideas, you can never be sure what he is saying on a conference call.

The Mediator

Always engaged and making eye contact he is. A true video calling master can get you the answers you seek.

The Technology Advocate

She is passionate about advancing office technology to make workflow more efficient. She has little patience for out-of-date audio-only systems and their glitches.

The Gesturer

He uses video conferencing to connect his team and forge stronger allegiances. With his smallest hand movement he lets them know whether he wants to force choke or slap a virtual high five.

The Visual Communicator

This innovative guy likes to show content from his smartphone, tablet and internal hard drive. He believes everyone should be able to share their own files quickly and easily, from whatever device they have.

InFocus, the company that created the Mondopad videoconferencing and collaboration system, has created a fun Star Wars themed infographic about videoconferencing in anticipation of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens coming out this December.

The infographic gives facsimiles of Star Wars characters and common conferencing personalities – both the good (light side) and the bad (dark side).

Along with the clever infographic comes a number of facts about conferencing that advocate for videoconferencing in the workplace. Some interesting stats can be found within the infographic:

  • In meetings, 63 percent of attendees send emails, 44 percent text and 21 percent shop online
  • 88 percent of attendees say videoconferencing increases impact of discussions
  • 87 percent of attendees say videoconferencing expedites decision making
  • 87 percent of executives under the age of 35 prefer to work for a company with videoconferencing capabilities
  • 94 percent of attendees say increased efficiency and productivity is the number one benefit of videoconferencing
