Slack is announcing its first price increase since the workplace communications software provider launched its platform of the same name in 2014, and is expanding free users’ access to new features.
In a blog post, the company says the price increases will only affect users of the platform’s Pro subscription, with monthly per user prices increasing from $8 to $8.75, and annual subscriptions rising to $7.25 from $6.67 per month.
These increases will go into effect in September, so current customers on an annual Pro subscription can lock in the existing annual rate by renewing their subscription before Sept. 1. In addition, customers paying for the same subscription monthly can also lock in the existing annual rate for one year by switching to an annual subscription by the same date.
Remaining the same are the company’s Business and Enterprise plans, which start at $12.50 per month.
In addition to the price increase, Slack is expanded access to the platform’s newest features for free users, including clips, which allow users to send audio and video as well as screen-share messages in direct messages and channels for asynchronous team updates. This is designed to help limit the number of meetings and reduce meeting fatigue.
Users of the free version of Slack will also see changes in message and storage limits. Rather than a specific storage limit, free users will have access to the last 90 days of message history and file storage.
“The majority of our active free teams will have access to more of their message history with the new 90-day limit compared to the previous limit,” the company said in the blog. “No matter how much your free team uses Slack, you’ll always have access to 90 days of history.”
Also in the blog, the company detailed some recently released features, including Slack Connect for external communications, Slack huddles and an included co-working space, Workflow Builder for no-code automation of routine tasks, and Clips.
