You’ve probably heard the saying, “better safe than sorry.”
I can’t think of a vertical outside of higher education where this saying is more applicable.
Even though HigherEdTD has covered snippets of campus safety and security in the past, I felt this topic needed more thorough coverage. With that said, I am dedicating the entire month of April to campus safety and security.
This month, I touch each end of the safety and security spectrum, with special focuses on:
• The anatomy, functionality and ROI of security cameras
• Mobile security solutions
• How to choose the best security system for your college
• Safety tips for social media usage
• Strategies on what to do in the case of an active shooter on campus
Plus, HigherEdTD goes inside the recent case on the University of Tulsa, where the school suspended one of its students for his social media usage. I also examine how this particular case demonstrates what happens when a college tries to sensor criticism, and winds up in court for violating free speech rights.
HigherEdTD will also be travelling to Atlanta in a couple of weeks to cover the 44th Annual ACUTA Conference.
ACUTA, which stands for the Association for College & University Technology Advancement is a world-wide, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving higher education institutions and their technology needs. The association holds annual fall and winter seminars, and an annual conference for higher education end users.
