Two students from the Tandon School of Engineering at NYU recently discovered a vulnerability in the NYU Print Service that would allow attackers to take full control of any computer as long as they were connected to the same Wi-Fi service as the printer.
The students were scanning their devices when they noticed the printers listening. Through the night they wrote an exploit that allowed any user to send malicious packets and redirect the flow of the program in order to hack into the system.
The school has commended the students for identifying and notifying them about the vulnerability.
