Lenovo has announced what it claims is the world’s first major 5G laptop: the Yoga 5G PC.
The 2-in-1 machine supports both millimeter wave full-band and sub-6GHz 5G networks and is capable of downloading large files instantly or streaming a high-resolution video with true Full HD clarity, even in populated areas like airports with 5G, the company said.
It’s the first laptop powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G Compute Platform that offers 5G network connectivity that’s up to 10 times faster than 4G through a 5G service provider, Lenovo said.
The 5G-Capable PC comes with a digital pen and Windows 10 as well as software-enabled intelligent temperature control that adjusts based on your activities.
Other features include a hands-free infrared camera, an integrated fingerprint reader, a weight of under 2.9 pounds and a 14-inch Full HD IPS touch display.
“Need to edit video footage in real-time on set and then upload the finished film? Or how about faster screen refreshes for smoother mobile gaming? Or downloading a movie before a trip? It’s all possible with lightning-fast download speeds of around 4Gb/s3 supported by nine built-in antennas for a stronger signal,” Lenovo said.

The Yoga 5G PC is the product of a years-long collaboration between Lenovo and Qualcomm to develop a new class of 5G-capable PCs. The device was first debuted at COMPUTEX in May under code name Project Limitless.
“At Lenovo, we don’t innovate for the sake of technology alone. Everything we do is about improving people’s experience,” said Johnson Jia, senior vice president and general manager of Lenovo’s Consumer Business of Intelligent Devices Group.
“With real 5G in a PC, it’s all about satisfying users’ need for speed: faster file transfers and streaming in 4K, 8K and even AR/VR; faster and higher quality video chats on-the-go; even faster screen refreshes for mobile gaming. When we say limitless connectivity, we mean it – 5G PC users the world-over will save time, stay productive, or get online entertainment from nearly anywhere, at any time.”
Simultaneous to the Yoga 5G, Lenovo unveiled three other laptops at CES 2020:
- Yoga Slim 7
- IdeaPad Duet Chromebook
- IdeaPad Flex5 Chromebook
