An updated experience in web and app version of Microsoft Office is now available to all commercial and education customers after first being announced in November 2021 and rolled out to some customers since.
Now, anyone with a work or school account will be able to use the new experience to help manage their files and work across their Office apps, the company says in a recent Tech Community blog.
The new experience features a redesigned Home screen and a Quick Access section that helps users easily get the files they need. This comes with customizable filters so users can see content according to collaborators, document type and more.
The new experience also features a My Content pane to help users get all the work related to them regardless of the file type, where it is stored or how it was shared. Users can also use “Browse by” views to find content associated with people or meetings and leverage Infinite Scroll to more easily find what they’re looking for.
According to Microsoft, the new experience also features a new “Create” pane that helps users see all of their apps in one place and quickly create new content. Users can create a new file with one click or use a new template tool by selecting the type of content they want to create, which will prompt various template options across multiple apps at once. This is also where users can find branded templates from their organization, which must be enabled by IT.
According to Microsoft, the experience is the same across both the web version and the Office app. The company plans to release similar improvements for personal account users.
Microsoft first announced the updates during its Ignite conference last November. Read this Microsoft blog on the Ignite announcement for more details.
