The last two years have been among the most trying for IT departments that were responsible for transitioning their organization’s employees to a remote work environment almost overnight, then responding to a massive increase in cyberattacks that came as a result while helping business leaders rethink the modern office.
According to TechDecisions’ first ever State of the IT Department report, organizations are now finally realizing the importance of their IT professionals, with the majority of IT professionals giving their employer good marks on their support of the IT department.
Some key findings:
- An overwhelming 85.4% of respondents rated their organization’s support of the IT department as either “exemplary” or “good,” while just 14.5% gave their employer a grade of “poor.”
- That may be translating to budgetary support, as 21.8% of IT professionals that responded to the survey said their budgets have increased “significantly” since 2020, and 52.7% said budgets have increased “slightly.”
- Just over a quarter of respondents say their budgets have decreased, which suggests that some organizations are still not valuing their IT departments correctly and are not keeping pace with technology trends over the last few years.
- The pandemic, distributed work and a perilous cybersecurity climate are driving organizations to invest in technology, with nearly three-quarters of respondents saying their IT budgets are expected to increase over the next two years, and nearly half (49.1%) expect their budgets to grow by more than 6%.
- Nearly 62% of respondents indicated they expect to get all of their requested funding, which shows that business leaders and executives will continue to value their highly skilled IT professionals as hybrid and distributed working models continue to evolve.
