Password manager 1Password has released 1Password 8 for iOS and Android, a new mobile platform designed to streamline productivity and security protections and bring more feature parity between desktop and mobile apps.
The company bills 1Password 8 for iOS and Android as the completion of the 1Password 8 roll-out across all supported devices and a solution that enables seamless security for users from whichever device they prefer. Positioning the mobile phone as the center of users’ digital lives where they conduct critical activities, the company says the new version makes it easier for users to be more productive while staying secure.
The early access of the product was launched earlier this year, and the general availability launch comes after direct customer feedback gathered during the preview.
In addition to a modern redesign that includes dark mode, a new home personalized and customizable home screen and updated navigation bar, 1 Password 8 for iOS and Android features automatically created and saved credentials, credit card information and addresses, as well as automatic search suggestions as users type in search terms.
The app also features refreshed notifications for security updates via a new Watchtower dashboard that provides actionable alerts and a holistic view of security risks and vulnerabilities that allows admins and users to identify weak passwords, inactive multi-factor authentication and compromised passwords.
In a blog post, the company calls the new Watchtower experience a user’s “security sentinel” that lets them know when they need to take action, including when their credentials are involved in a data breach. The tool also provides security scores and evaluates key security data points.
1Password for iOS and Android also includes biometrics, enabling the use of Face ID or a fingerprint on devices to access the app.
In a statement, CEO Jeff Shiner said the company is focused on making it easy for users to be productive while staying secure online.
“As we increasingly live and work on our phones, it’s essential to provide robust device security that flows just as naturally as the apps we rely on,” Shiner said. “1Password 8 for iOS and Android ushers in a new era for our mobile apps – enabling greater personalization, deepening our human-centric platform and helping to eliminate the headache of logins on mobile devices. Importantly, our updated app reflects our commitment to ensuring people have a seamless experience across all devices and platforms.”
