Bring Your Own Device
Millennials are connected to their technology. They grew up with the advancement of computers, cell phones, and tablets, and have watched these technologies develop and work through growing pains as millennials have done the same. Both their personal and professional lives run through their smart phones and laptops, and millennials want to feel comfortable to use what they have grown accustomed to.
Incorporate collaboration, presentation and videoconferencing systems that are accompanied by an app that allows users to participate from a mobile device. The same goes for software that augments business practices – when a millennial can work on a document from their phone they are more comfortable and more likely to continue that work at home and during free time. Utilize network security programs to ensure that nothing from their personal lives compromise your professional content, and allow them to use their own personal devices for business practices.
Video walls for presentations, such as Lowe Campbell Ewald’s video wall, can double as entertainment stations for employees during down time.
Company Culture
According to a Deloitte survey, 78 percent of millennials were strongly influenced by how innovative a company was when deciding if they wanted to work there. Millennials are looking for companies with a solid culture, that allow them to pursue their passions, reward the employee, and are technologically savvy. Companies that offer social situations for employees to mingle have a high priority placed as well.
This is where the wow-factor comes into play. A large video wall in the lobby or in a presentation room can stream local or anticipated sporting events or television programs. Individual displays in a cafeteria or breakroom encourage employee interaction, which millennials are big fans of. Touch screen displays can run games, and music streaming applications can let employees pick the songs coming out over the radio while management can screen the choices to ensure nothing inappropriate plays over the airwaves.
Retention
Millennials just want to feel appreciated. They want input into how they are doing their jobs, they want to be trained to further develop, and they want leniency when it comes to attending their personal obligations. Is it better or worse than previous generations? Who’s to say? But the fact is that the new talent coming out has a certain idea of what they want out of their career. Many are willing to sacrifice money, time, and professional advancement in order to ensure they are happy in their job, so the staples of enticing an employee to stay around may not always remain such. The right attitude, the right environment, and the right technology will ensure that your company remains attractive as the millennials take over the corporate world.
