Those who answered the 2020 Campus Safety Access Control, Lock and Lockdown Survey were also asked to describe their organizations’ social distancing and facial covering policies, as well as any other school protocol changes they’ve implemented in response to the coronavirus.

Here’s what they said:

Social Distancing and Mask Policies:

  • “All visitors and staff members must be screened by medical staff before entering, masks are required in all public and private areas. All waiting and seating areas with the capacity to seat four or more have been closed. One visitor per patient if screened. No visitors in the ED or psych treatment areas.”
  • “Shields worn for all staff and faculty. Masks required for everyone on campus. Grab n go food only, no lounge areas.”
  • “Social distancing at six feet apart in regular office settings and classrooms including queuing. Students in the classroom will be required to wear masks.  Faculty, if at least 6 feet from students at the front, may opt to not wear while lecturing. However, if coming closer than 6 feet, would be required to wear mask.”
  • “We have Xs on the floor six feet apart, limit two per elevator at a time and two per restroom. Hallways are one way. We have stairwell up and different one for down. Must wear a mask at all times.”
  • “Younger grades have no masks. Teachers wear masks if physical distancing cannot take place. Middle school students wear masks if physical distancing not possible. Middle school students wear masks on buses.”
  • “Based solely on the governor’s orders/directions.”
  • “We’ve suggested that you wear face coverings but there is no policy. Same with social distancing.”
  • “The policy is that all persons entering campus are to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. I’m not sure if this is being enforced.”

Other Changes That Have Been Implemented or Are Being Considered:

  • “Drinking fountains are masked off. Plexiglass separation at points of contact.”
  • “More sanitizing and cleaning.”
  • “No visitation policy unless patient is considered a special needs patient, OB patient or end of life.”
  • “Virtual security.”
  • “Additional lunch periods with limited students and assigned seating. Students encouraged to bring their lunch from home. Changes in physical education activities, recess protocol and schedules, 6-8 or middle school students will not rotate classrooms or have lockers. Staff will rotate to them. Additional sanitizer and wipes available. Increased cleaning intervals on all surfaces, restrooms, classrooms, office, etc.”
  • “Implemented thermal cameras.”
  • “Tightening perimeters to funnel staff through specific entry points for temperature testing. Symptom surveys, work from home as possible.”
  • “Extended time for dorm move-in/out and limited family members who can accompany a student; no self-serve buffets or drinks and disabled drinking fountains; enhanced cleaning; broadened scope of accommodation for absences.”
  • “Reduce ridership on shuttle system; revised parking policy.”
  • “Card access has been modified to ensure all entry must be made through touchless temperature screening checkpoints.”
  • “Anti-body testing.”
  • “More outdoor events.”
  • “NONE.”
  • “Cancel after-school programs.”
  • “Bring your own water bottles.”
  • “Using an LMS this year and buying more Chromebooks. Looking at audio/video recording (lecture capture) systems for some classrooms.”
  • “No meetings with more than 20 people.”
