Figure Out Where You Stand: How to Choose the Best Podium for Your Campus

What to look for when shopping for lecterns and podiums in college settings

June 5, 2014 Jessica Kennedy Leave a Comment

In this day and age, presentation is everything.

This is especially true for colleges and universities, and how they present themselves to current and prospective students. What sets one college apart from another is what furniture and technology it uses, including podiums and lecterns for lecture halls, classrooms and auditoriums.

During a presentation or lecture, our eyes are usually locked on the speaker. However, what assists in making the speaker’s message effective is what they are standing on or behind.

Colleges need to look for fresh, tech-savvy and convenient podiums and lecterns in order to keep up with the top dogs. With colleges’ multipurpose needs, companies are fabricating new podiums and lecterns that cater to the needs of collegiate buildings.

Many podiums and lecterns are built with cutting-edge technological advances, including touch screen features and mounts structured to hold Tablets and iPads. Others are designed to come apart and offer layered compartments for TV storage and microphone hookups, while others still are crafted for convenient and easy portability. Finally, today’s podiums and lecterns are assembled with an array of different materials to meet college’s aesthetic expectations, whether a school is striving to “go green” and looking for something made of recycled fibers or aiming to maintain a professional look with sleek polishes and an engraved plaque of the school’s crest.

But how do you pick the best podium for your college? Start by figuring out what you need that podium for.

“When selecting a lectern in multimedia presentation environments, you have to ask, how is it being used?” says Dean Wheelan, the application engineer for Middle Atlantic Products. “What are they doing with it?”

Check out the slideshow for more tips on purchasing podiums.
