At Boston College, the athletics department takes “go big or go home” to a new level.
This August marks the final stages of the college’s latest project: new video boards and speakers at Alumni Stadium.
The new video boards will be twice as large as the old ones at 19.2 feet by 54 feet; the end zone boards will display 1,036 square feet of explosive red and gold color. The boards will also feature 13 HD LED, or 13 millimeters of space between pixels, which will display crisper images than the boards at Gillette Stadium.
In addition to the video boards, the stadium will also build an LED wrap around panel to showcase advertisements in motion and high-definition.
Brad Bates, Boston College’s Athletic Director, says the school chose to make significant investments in order to enhance sports fans’ experiences.
“Replays will be prominent, highlights frequent, promotions entertaining, and all will be experienced in high-definition,” he says in his blog on the project.
Bates also said the school wanted the upgrade in order to “beat the living room experience.”
“Living rooms are our competition,” Bates says in his blog . “From parking to food options to in-game entertainment, we will continually look to make improvements.”
