Technology Offers 3 Routes to Hosting E-Commerce

Decision makers looking to take their business online for e-commerce might consider software as a service providers, self-hosting, or the Cloud.

June 19, 2018 Jessica Messier 1 Comment

Online stores are taking the forefront of consumer buying, ReadWrite says. By 2021, an estimated 2.1 billion users will be buying products online.

While e-commerce might be booming, decision makers who are considering taking their business online have multiple dependency and hosting requirements to consider before launching.

One thing to consider, ReadWrite says, is opting for software as a service (SaaS) providers. These solutions help developers save money (although they might need to pay a monthly fee), and help them complete their work quickly, which can give a new online business a healthy boost at the start. Providers like Shopify and ZentoShop can help decision makers taking this route.

On the other hand, decision makers might consider a more “old school” approach and opt for self-hosting an online business. Self-hosted solutions, like Magento or Prestashop, enable developers to customize their business and website: “With the self-hosted solutions, you will have the option edit and make it adapt to your product and service, an option that you wouldn’t really get otherwise,” ReadWrite says. “This is a huge part of why any technical person might lean towards a self-hosted store.” Some of the downsides to self-hosting, though, might involve making multiple updates to plugins and the platform during the course of a year; if a developer or decision maker overlooks these, it can be detrimental to the online business’s cybersecurity.

Calling on the Cloud can also help decision makers with e-commerce, ReadWrite says. The Cloud can help with information storage, marketing automation, and take care of menial tasks. Solutions like Amazon Web Services (AWS) can also help businesses grow faster, scale production, and cut costs: “Moving to the Cloud will not only give you a competitive edge in terms of functionality and loading speed, which is an advantage for the customer, but it will allow you to cut costs,” ReadWrite says. “There’s an AWS pricing calculator that will help you to figure out what kind of costs you are looking at when switching from a traditional server” too.

  1. Managed cloud hosting platforms says

What an impressive write up. Moving your e-commerce to the cloud hosting is indeed a better option, however you could also select the managed cloud hosting service as it takes all of your burden by taking the hosting matters in it’s own hand and you sit back and monitor your web via heir own provided c-panel.
