Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS 11.0 Nova
PAN-OS 11.0 Nova is a leap forward in network security. It stops 26% more zero-day malware than traditional sandboxes; detects 60% more injection attacks; simplifies security architecture; and helps organizations adopt cybersecurity best practices.

Cybersecurity giant Palo Alto Networks is introducing PAN-OS 11.0 Nova, a new version of its PAN-OS software that includes more than 50 product updates and innovations such as new cloud-delivered malware protection and a new advanced threat protection service to protect against zero-day injection attacks.

According to the company, the new PAN-OS 11.0 Nova comes in response to a significant increase in unique malware samples over the last year with an increasing level of malware sophistication.

The new version of PAN-OS includes Advanced WildFire, an enhanced service designed to protect against modern, sandbox-aware malware by building upon its custom hardened hypervisor to introduce new capabilities, such as intelligent run-time memory analysis combined with stealthy observation and automate unpacking to stay hidden rom malware and defeat advanced evasion.

According to Palo Alto Networks, these new capabilities enable Advanced WildFire to stop more highly evasive zero-day malware than traditional sandboxes.

The company says its new Advanced Threat Prevention service reimagines the intrusion prevention system with new inline capabilities for stopping zero-day injection attacks, such as deep-learning models built on high-fidelity telemetry data across tens of thousands of exploited vulnerabilities over the last decade.

The company says internal testing shows that the enhanced service detects 606 more zero-day injection attacks that traditional solutions miss.

Other innovations in the new Nova release include web proxy support, integration of the company’s Next-Generation Cloud Access Security Broker, AIOps and new hardware firewalls designed for branches, campus locations and data centers.

PAN-OS 11.0 Nova and most of the security services will be available in November. New ML-Powered NGFW platforms will be available in December, and SSPM will be available on the NGFW platforms in January. Most security services including Advanced WildFire will be compatible with previous versions of PAN-OS.

Anand Oswal, senior vice president of network security at Palo Alto Networks says a new approach is required to detect advanced malware.

“PAN-OS 11.0 Nova is a leap forward in network security,” Oswal says. “It stops 26% more zero-day malware than traditional sandboxes; detects 60% more injection attacks; simplifies security architecture; and helps organizations adopt cybersecurity best practices. The bottom line is that Nova helps keep organizations one step ahead of attackers.”
