CIOs Biggest Stressors and How to Solve Them

As technology evolves and changes, higher education CIOs are stressed and in search of adaptive solutions to keep end users happy.

June 26, 2015 TD Staff Leave a Comment

CIOs are experiencing a shift in their roles , especially in higher education.

Like all CIOs, they are required to address new challenges and explore fresh opportunities in the evolving landscape, but what sets them apart is what they are creating.

New technology is not just for staff, but for students of all ages and levels of learning. What factors are leading them to go from being technology leaders to innovative education leaders?

Challenges for CIOs in Higher Education

As technology begins to take center stage in education, it raises some serious areas of concern for CIOs:

• A possible breach of network security and running out of bandwidth to provide support.
• With mobile growing in leaps and bounds each year, they are also challenged with an increasing demand for reliable campus-wide Wi-Fi, without breaking the bank.

• With the growing use of video as an effective teaching tool, as offered through the flipped classroom, infrastructure support becomes an increasingly important priority.

• The flipped classroom requires students to use video lectures and online curricula during hours traditionally reserved for “doing homework,” while class time is reserved for one-on-one attention. About 97 percent of CIOs see the role of flipped classroom increasing.
