HP 3D Printing

HP has launched a series of new 3D printing offerings and services to help manufacturers more easily integrate 3D printing into their digital manufacturing strategies, the company announced Wednesday.

The electronics maker said it is also releasing a series of expanded industrial partnerships with industry leaders like Siemens and Volkswagen.

HP said its new 3D printing services will make businesses more agile and enable their continued transformation to digital manufacturing.

Those news products include:

  • HP 3D as a Service Base subscription that provides customers automatic replenishment of HP 3D supplies, simplified tracking of billing and use and reliable remote and on-site support. The pay-per-build service is available for the HP Jet Fusion 5200, HP Jet Fusion 4200 and HP Jet Fusion 500 series 3D solutions.
  • A new HP 3D as a Service Plus subscription that integrates hardware, supplies and services for customers looking to accelerate product life cycles with optimized in-house rapid prototyping and final part production. The Plus subscription will begin with the HP Jet Fusion 340 solution and additional 3DaaS subscriptions will be introduced after.
  • Customers around the world will now have access to an expanded HP Digital Manufacturing Network of plastics and metals parts providers thanks to HP adding new partners like Prototal in Europe and Solize in Japan.

New collaborations

HP also announced new collaborations to help customers fully utilize digital manufacturing tools, including new alliances with German manufacturing conglomerate Siemens and U.S.-based specialty chemical company Lubrizol.

With Siemens, HP is showcasing new serial production-ready parts designed with two leading automotive industry supplies. Automotive engineering expert company EDAG has developed a topology-optimized active coolant distributor for electric vehicles.

Adient, a global manufacturer of automotive seating for all major carmakers, is creating a new seat headrest optimized for size without compromising strength and flexibility.

Lubrizol, an existing HP 3D printing partner, announced a new powder-based thermoplastic polyurethane material for HP Jet Fusion 4200 3D printing solutions. According to HP, the material is ideal for flexible and elastic parts.

AM Solutions, a major player in the equipment, process technologies and consumables for the automated post-processing and surface finishging of 3D printed parts, is partnering with HP to bring an industrial ready and scalable 3D printing post-processing workflow to HP customers and plans to use the HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D solution or design and optimization of its own products and will offer design, part production and finishing services to its end customers using the Multi Jet Fusion design.

HP and Volkswagen last year entered into a partnership that served as the foundation for the automaker to industrialize additive manufacturing. The companies recently hit an important milestone, completing a production of more than 10,000 high quality parts produced in just a few weeks to support an electric vehicle launch event.
