Traditional signage, what have you done for me lately?

Mike Brandofino, CEO of Visualz, explains how digital signage is evolving and how his Visualz system can help bring your company into the 21st century.

So I was searching for an app on my iPhone, and I came across Atari games replicated for the iPhone. Really? Pong, Pac-Man, Asteroids…it was like going back in time to an era when we were amused by the image of a white line “hitting” a white circle from one side of the screen to another. We sometimes called it “TV Tennis.” Now, you’ve got Madden NFL, where you actually feel like you are playing in a real football game. And that’s when I started thinking about technology, in particular, AV equipment, computers and signage. My mind always seems to find its way back to the technology industry.

Back in the day, the struggle was real. We had billboards and print, and that was about it. Now, we’re all about the digital signage. Digital signage has become “a thing,” and on a much larger level than a circle chomping dots and being chased by ghosts ever was. Curious transition? Not really. Here’s why we’re dumping traditional signage and getting serious with digital.

Robust and dynamic content – Digital signage isn’t just a static display. You can use the power of good design to make visually appealing content that will capture your audience’s attention and allow them to recall your brand longer. According to the Online Testing eXchange, 63 percent of people reported that digital signage catches their attention, which is a higher percentage than TV, Internet and billboard advertising. That’s a pretty significant number, no?

Real-time information – Digital signage gets your messaging out immediately, so you can be flexible and responsive to viewers’ needs. You can deliver timely information at the push of a button. In case of emergency, there’s even an emergency override option so you can disseminate public safety information through screens normally used for other digital signage content.

Engagement with a larger audience
– When you use traditional advertising methods like print media and billboards, your audience is limited to whomever happens to pick up the paper or drive by your billboard. When you use digital signage, you can display your messaging across many screens at once, giving you a much greater chance at being seen.

Targeted, consistent messaging – According to getbusymedia.com, shoppers are 174 percent more likely to buy a product when digital signage is present. Why? When you use traditional signage, your sign is static and must be targeted to the general public. When you use digital signage, thanks to the flexibility of the medium, you can send consistent, targeted messaging to your audiences. The more targeted your message, the more effective it will be.

Cost-effective solutions – Visualz digital signage solutions are more cost effective than other digital signage on the market. Prior, the cost of digital signage might have been out of reach for some organizations because of the high cost of servers, licenses and players. Visualz is cloud-based, so you don’t have to rely on expensive in-house servers. You can plug the digital media agent (DMA) into any HDMI connector and Internet connection, so any place where you have a screen and Wi-Fi or Ethernet, you’re in business. And, it saves you IT and CAPEX costs because there is no hardware to buy, no software to install and no need for hours of training or special staff requirements to implement.

Rotating content – Rotating content of digital signage gives you far more options than static, traditional signage. A rotating display is also more eye-catching than a static sign. Your creativity and the amount of messages you send aren’t limited by the size of the screen, so you have more opportunities to reach your varied target audiences.

I bet many of you are thinking, “Boy, I still have poster boards and sheets of paper taped to the walls. I really need to get out of the 80’s.”  And you’d be right. But remember, digital signage doesn’t have to be hard, complicated and expensive. Start capturing the kind of attention you need and get your message out with digital signage. Just like with big hair and mullets, you’ll look back and be grateful you moved on from the 80’s. If you’d like to see how easy it can be with digital signage, check out Visualz. We’d be happy to help you put the 80’s behind you.
