Collaborative learning can bring extreme value to a student’s education. When students have the ability to work together, they are challenged to think critically and learn from others to solve problems and complete projects and assignments.
Tampa Preparatory School, located in Tampa, Florida, understands the value of a collaborative classroom and is constantly looking to improve its students’ learning experiences. After implementing a successful iPad 1:1 program three years ago, the school began discussing how they could further facilitate activity and interaction in the classroom through the implementation of A/V technology.
“We needed to readdress the learning environment and not just the devices,” says Chad Lewis, director of technology at Tampa Prep. “We collaborated with numerous teachers and told them we were doing an architectural A/V furniture change and asked for their input on the type of learning environment they wanted. What we came away with was teachers wanted to be able to collaborate on the fly, they wanted mobility of the classroom furniture and they wanted equal an audio and visual experience for all students no matter where they were in the room.”
After attending the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC), Lewis came across Epson’s Finger-Touch interactive projectors, and was impressed with what the projectors could offer classrooms.
“When I saw the Epson interactive projectors, it brought interactivity back to the forefront for me because of the price point and the other benefits of the Epson projectors. The price of a 3000 Lumen Projector with an $80 bulb replacement is very inexpensive. It also has the ability to display an image on any surface and make that surface interactive and that was unbeatable,” says Lewis.
Lewis was also impressed with Epson’s interactive projector software, specifically the iProjection app and Moderator software. The iProjection app allows students to wirelessly distribute their app content such as notations, drawings, pictures, websites, etc. to the class via the projector. This enables students to view their classmates’ work, increasing interaction and facilitating collaboration.
