4K

Debuting at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2019 in Amsterdam, Netherlands from February 5 – 8, 2019. Fiber optic cabling and 4K come together in a new A/V distribution solution from KanexPro. The company’s recently announced and ISE debut product, the HDMI 2.0 Fiber Optic Extender (EXT-4KFIBERPRO) is designed to transmit 4K video, audio and control over fiber with HDR, Dolby Vision and Audio Return Channel (ARC).

The Market Drivers. Driven by the public’s appetite for UltraHD 4K video and the adoption of high dynamic range (HDR) video, the expectation for quality video and digital signage is changing within commercial environments.

The evolution of video is happening at a rapid pace and through increasing bandwidth capabilities that include 18Gbps HDMI compliant fiber optic cables and AV over IP solutions, the ability to display HDR content is becoming easier.

As a result commercial video manufacturers are responding by developing products that enable professional integrators to design cost friendly systems that support 4K with HDR.

Moreover, many of the systems that integrators offer also provide an eye towards the future with the ability to display higher chroma subsampling rates, wider color palettes, and even 8K resolutions.

The Features and Specifications. The KanexPro HDMI 2.0 Fiber Optic Extender is designed for sensitive, secure and robust transmissions of A/V signals through fiber optic connection. The EXT-4KFIBERPRO is engineered to extend 4K/60 Hz up to 984 feet (300 meters) or 1080p up to 1,300 feet (400 meters) with 4:4:4 and HDR. Compliant with HDCP 2.2, the EXT-4KFIBERPRO includes one transmitter and one receiver with two single-mode optical fiber ports or two OM3/OM4 multi-mode fiber cables.  The EXT-4KFIBERPRO features bi-directional IR, RS-232 pass-through, and ARC, EDID and CEC channels.

The Reliability of Fiber-Based Transmissions of AV. “Fiber-based transmissions are the most reliable and secure method of delivering digital HD video, audio, and data over long-haul fiber optic cables,” says Kashyap Khetia, senior product marketing manager for KanexPro. “Our HDMI 2.0 Fiber Optic Extender is ideal for government, command, and control systems where security and high-resolution imagery is critical for day-to-day operations without any signal degradation or latency.”

The Design and Warranty. The KanexPro EXT-4KFIBERPRO features a slim chassis design, a mini USB port for simplified firmware updates, and locking power supply and mounting ears. KanexPro covers the EXT-4KFIBERPRO, and all other solutions, with a 3-year warranty for parts and labor.
