During the Kaltura Connect Education Virtual Summit, Adam Hagen said Purdue University stumbled upon Kaltura during its search for a new video solution, and has been in love ever since.
Hagen, the educational technologist for Purdue University, said the school opted for Kaltura’s video platform because it needed a solution that was easy to use, involved with cross platform integrations and mobile compatible.
“We went with Kaltura because they met our needs,” he said.
Hagen also said Purdue University students came across videos on Kaltura’s platform the same way – by stumbling on them.

“We did a pilot in 2012,” he said. “It was not a pilot in a conventional sense. We left it open, and that’s how they stumbled on it. They started uploading videos. We let people find the product and find ways that were beneficial to students and education…The more exposure you can get, the higher probability you’ll have of people picking a product and using it.”
Hagen said Kaltura’s video platform was a hit with students.
“People seem to flock to the product,” he said. “Like that, we have 94,000 hours played [by students]. The bandwidth is going to continue to grow over time.”
Due to the students, Hagen said the university has seen dramatic growth in video usage.
For example: in the fall of 2012, 1,295 video entries were played 22,508 times, with 2,157 hours of video streamed via Blackboard Learn and SharePoint. By 2015, 42,107 video entries have been played 1,183,317 times, with 94,051 hours streamed on Blackboard and SharePoint.
Hagen said the video platform was also successful among instructors, and sparked further creation of additional content using Camtasia, Kaltura Screen Recorder, Kaltura Recording and Video Express.
