When it comes to how to choose a video wall solution – whether it’s for a meeting room video collaboration platform or an interactive retail space – there are enough options to leave heads spinning.

[related]It’s one reason why Insight Media recently published a whitepaper, Evaluating Video Wall Solutions in Retail and Collaboration, aimed at helping customers make those decisions and integrators help make those recommendations.

The whitepaper zeros in on comparisons between LCD-based, LED-based and Prysm’s Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) video wall solutions.

Chris Chinnock, president of Insight Media, presented his findings during a Digital Signage Week presentation hosted by Prysm.

It goes without saying that Prysm’s LPD video wall technology is a focal point of the research and Prysm-hosted presentation, but the emphasis is warranted, according to Prysm.

LPD was included in Insight Media’s research, Prysm writes, “as it offers a number of advantages and is not as well-known as” LCD and LED.

In any case, Insight Media’s research provides a valuable tool for any customer or integrator researching video wall options for collaboration or retail spaces.

During the Digital Signage Week presentation, Chinnock said the paper will come in handy for both customers and integrators as they try to identify which features to look for and “it doesn’t matter where you are in the buying chain.”

From Prysm’s point of view, added Hannah Grap, VP of corporate marketing and demand generation, said the paper is really about education. “We wanted to give people a starting point to start asking the right questions.”

Choosing a Video Wall: What Are the Right Questions?

Chinnock’s Insight Media paper, Evaluating Video Wall Solutions in Retail and Collaboration, includes comprehensive matrix charts that allow a customer or integrator to weigh LCD-, LED- and Laser Phosphor Display-based video wall solutions against each other based on answers to several key questions. Some examples:

  • How present are seems or bezels?
  • How is the luminance uniformity over time?
  • How is the color uniformity over time?
  • Does the contrast decrease with viewing angle?
  • How is the power consumption?
  • How is the touchscreen response?
  • How does it handle moving artifacts?

Insight Media compares LCD, LED and Laser Phosphor Display based on all these factors and several more, while delving deeply into why each feature is important and when they’re important (they’re not always important for every application).

The paper includes deep dives into each technology, acknowledging pros and cons and variables that enter into the decision-making process.
