5 Tips to Choosing Wayfinding Digital Signage Solutions for Your College

Follow these suggestions on how to keep your school up and running with wayfinding digital solutions

With books and class lessons moving to the Internet, signage solutions are following suit.

Nowadays, it’s common for a college campus to be lit up with monitors flashing important messages to inhabitants and visitors. Wayfinding digital signage solutions are multi-purpose and user friendly, which is an ideal combination for the people intercepting messages and the ones who are creating them. Many college campuses utilize their wayfinding technology to convey a personalized welcome sign to prospective students about to take a campus tour, or to advertise an upcoming on-campus event. Wayfinding digital signage provides the technological building blocks to establish a college’s brand, while also serving as an alert system for those dangerous, just-in-case scenarios.  Without it, colleges would be stuck in the “Paper Age” and fall short of keeping up with today’s tech giants.

A Word from the Wise

Spencer Graham, the manager of operations for West Virginia University’s Information Stations says that universities getting into digital signage should think hard about their solutions, such as campus safety and creating a welcoming atmosphere when prospective students pay a visit.

“They need to sit down and think about the big picture,” Graham says. “They have to think about what information they are going to put up, who the audience is, and how they are going to pitch their message. You don’t want to have anything that is stale.”

What is “Wayfinding?”

Wayfinding is literally “finding your way” in a specific location. In the old days, people relied on maps, pamphlets and other printed signage methods to get from Point A to Point B. However, digitalized wayfinding solutions provide sharper and more vivid images of directions. Plus, going digital enables a university to post advertisements, announcements, broadcasts and emergency message features onto their wayfinding solutions. That way, people are able to still navigate their journey more smoothly and more quickly while also increasing their awareness of what going on, what a particular college has to offer and what their representing brand is all about.
