Cisco is launching new innovations in Webex designed to help organizations adapt to a hybrid working environment, including new asynchronous video messaging capabilities, new mobile device features, support for Apple AirPlay and a first-of-its kind partnership with Ford.
The company announced the new features and products during the Enterprise Connect conference in Orlando, Fla., highlighting the unified communication and collaboration industry. The announcements also come as Webex Calling hits 6 million users.
According to Cisco, the company’s partnership with Ford will extend Webex Meetings to vehicles, essentially making the vehicle into a modern office. Ford’s new electric vehicles come with a new 15.5-inch screen and entertainment system that uses HTML 5, like a website, that can create new software experiences and be updated over the internet.
Users can use the browser experience to connect with Webex, and there will soon be a native Webex app within the screen for a seamless, collaborative experience, the company says. Users can use the “Optimize for My Voice” Webex feature, and collaboration technology will only be deployed when the vehicle is stationary. If driving, Webex will be in audio-only mode.
The company also said it is bringing Webex to Apple Airplay, allowing users to wirelessly connect with iPhone, iPad and Mac to share content or mirror their screens in a meeting with colleagues whether their in a meeting room or remote in a video call.
This new feature allows admins to enforce a simple and secure PIN during setup so users are sure they are connecting to the right screen.
In addition to bringing Webex to vehicles and Apple AirPlay, Cisco is introducing new capabilities in Vidcast, the company’s asynchronous video messaging solution to create stronger engagement and productivity for remote workers. Users can import a demo recorded in Webex, edit, and share as a Vidcast for async consumption, and it can be embedded within a Slido poll for virtual check-ins or training, Cisco says.
The company also announced that it is extending the Embedded Apps from Webex desktop app to include Webex Desk and Webex Board Series devices, as well as phones and tables, to eliminate the need to toggle between different apps.
Cisco also announced that Webex Go, which enables users to add Webex Calling features as a dedicated business like to mobile phones, will be available at the end of the month.
Cisco also says that Webex devices support interoperability with Zoom, Microsoft and Google collaboration platforms.
