In this episode of the My TechDecisions Podcast, Associate Editor Zachary Comeau talks to Bill Parrish, co-founder of California-based thermal imaging company Seek Thermal. The company is marketing a new thermal imaging solution, Seek Scan, that can detect a person’s skin temperature which can help tell if they have a fever — a common symptom of COVID-19.
According to Parrish, this kind of technology has been used in several previous pandemics across the globe, including SARS and MERS. The imaging device would be installed an common entrances into buildings where a person would be scanned.

Rather than using hand-held devices, Seek Scan and similar systems maintains social distancing protocols and is a relatively low-cost solution at $2,500. The device is manufactured in the U.S., is NDAA compliant and follows U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
The device is currently being used by organizations of all kinds, including private enterprise, government, law enforcement and others.
