ScholarChip, a provider of automated school safety and operations services, announces two new products that embrace the Internet of Things (IoT) and use Power over Ethernet (PoE) to secure door access and classroom attendance in K-12 schools.

According to the company, the devices make implementation quick, easy and cost-effective for both classroom retrofitting and new building construction. Both products use ScholarChip’s cloud-based physical access and identity solutions system.

PoE Secure Door Access Reader

The first device, the PoE Secure Door Access Reader, can be implemented using existing Ethernet cables throughout a school building. A door is secured by connecting the relay to the door strike and smart ID card reader.

Doors that are wired are controlled by the Internet and can be locked down with one command from anywhere. All door access and permissions can also be managed online.

PoE Classroom Attendance Reader

The second device, the PoE Classroom Attendance Reader, is a cloud-based system which gives real-time reports showing which staff members and students are in the building or in a specific room, helping first responders react quickly.

The readers can be wall- or desk-mounted and are able to process a classroom of students in under 60 seconds.

With this device, school districts can spend less time on administrative and clerical tasks.

Both devices have onboard processing and provide security in the event of a network loss.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for school districts to upgrade their security and operations functions through automation, with efficient Internet connectivity,” says Maged Atiya, Ph.D., CEO/CTO, ScholarChip. “Safety precautions and automated attendance systems are transforming the K12 environment, and IoT and PoE are the wave of the future.”
