Nearly 90,000 Sex Bots Purged from Twitter

Last week, Twitter purged nearly 90,000 fake accounts that were part of a massive botnet promoting links to fake dating services. The accounts generated more than 8.5 million posts about the subscription-based scams websites.

The accounts were first identified by security researchers at ZeroFOX. They dubbed the botnet SIREN, and found that the accounts collectively generated over 30 million clicks. Members of the programs traditionally receive payouts based on the traffic they generate for the porn websites they’re actually directing users to.

40% of the domains tweeted out are associated with Deniro Marketing, a company identified by Krebs on Security as connected to these types of campaigns.
