11) Do you know what technologies are connected to your network? Do you just deploy them as is?
12) Who does your CISO report to? Does he/she understand the function of his/her job?
If your college doesn’t have an open minded CISO, then that CISO might be in the wrong place. However, if he or she understands his or her role and how he or she will support the network, then he or she will be a reliable resource.
13) How mature are your cybersecurity policies?
Understanding what level of maturity your policies are at will determine if your college is in the detection or prevention phase.
14) Should your college go with an open source or a vendor?
Before deciding, colleges should consider how reliable each one is, what the likelihood is of each party making mistakes and if they are at risk of leaking your college’s data.
