How to Beat Scammers and Find an Accredited Online College

With scammers getting smarter, users should strategize how and where they look for an online college.

August 26, 2015 TD Staff Leave a Comment

With all the scam warnings we see for online services these days, it’s no wonder users are skeptical about receiving a degree from an online university.

This skepticism is exactly what will guide those users toward an online school that is legitimate, recognizable and can offer them real value.

There is an overwhelming number of schools that all claim to be the most devoted to their users, offer the lowest tuition costs and state that their degrees are worth the most once graduation rolls around.

However, as far too many users have come to realize, the number of “degree mills” is rapidly increasing, and they’re getting more adept at tricking users into enrolling with them.

Users should know a couple of things before they start looking for the online college that is going to be right for them.

Why accreditation matters

Making the decision to get a degree is a big one — the amount of money, time and energy that a user must devote to his or her school work is nothing to scoff at.

That’s why, especially when it comes to online colleges, users should be absolutely sure that they are investing their valuable assets into a school that has their best interests in mind.

Ultimately, users should be confident that the online university they’re choosing will be helpful in landing the job they’d like after earning a degree, as well as teach them the skills needed to succeed at that job.

Finding a school that is accredited ensures that users will be exposed to the necessary curriculum to meet the not only their standards, but also those of a future employer.

An online university that has been assessed by an accrediting source can provide proof that it meets the current standards of the educational board. This is generally an expensive process, which weeds out many of the illegitimate, aforementioned “degree mills.”
