Corey says REVEL is purchased for each course at a college. The cost is 65 dollars per course.
“It’s a subscription, like many digital products today,” Corey says. “In terms of a release, every six months is an ownership model and offline model, much in the way the Kindle has a Cloud archive you can download onto your device.”
Corey also says that REVEL has made professors happy, especially with its office hours and flipped classroom capabilities.
He says the key piece with REVEL is its ability to connect professors directly with students outside of the classroom.
“This is one of the powerful aspects that separates it from other digital products, is they have a connection with their students outside of class,” he says. “They get a performance dashboard, and they’re equipped with information about their students that they’ve never had before, including time on task, how much time a student is spending on the material outside of class, how the students are doing on the assignment and the course as a whole, etc.
You can get as granular as the instructor wants,” he says.
Clark says other faculty members at Costal Bend College are falling in love with REVEL.
He says the best part of REVEL’s support of faculty is its ease of use, and its adaptability to teaching styles.
“It’s the ease of the system, the ease of setting it up,” he says. “I liking beating to my own notes, my own information, experience. It allows the instructor to that, it’s not regimented. What I like is that it’s flexible enough to adapt to the way I teach. I think that’s key to any instructor.”
Clark says REVEL has been so effective with Costal Bend College faculty that his whole department is pushing to implement it at a wider scale.
“They’re all in favor of something that’s going to improve students’ success,” he says. “Our department made the decision that for the spring, the entire history and government department is going to use REVEL in all their classes. That’s the first time in nine year I’ve been here that I’ve seen a department jump on the bandwagon like that.
My job now is to educate the instructors how to put it together and adapt as they see necessary,” he says. “The college has really adopted it.”
