Sophos Ltd. has rolled out version 8 of Sophos Mobile, its unified endpoint management and mobile security solution.
Available through the vendor’s Sophos Central cloud-based management platform, the new release adds support for devices running Apple’s MacOS operating system to a solution that previously enabled consolidated administration of Windows and mobile endpoints. It also incorporates enhanced functionality for installing, removing, and managing Windows 10 apps on desktops, laptops, and tablets.
U.K.-based Sophos announced the new solution at this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain.
“Mobile devices continue to be the fastest growing malware target,” said Dan Schiappa, senior vice president and general manager of products at Sophos, in a press statement. “Personal and IoT devices on the network represent a significant threat to corporate security due to management and discovery issues. With Sophos Mobile 8, IT admins in any size of business can manage and secure all their MacOS, Windows, and mobile endpoints from a single management platform. This streamlined approach to security management helps both administrators and users save time and effort, improving productivity across the business.”
Sophos Mobile 8 arrives at a time of rapidly escalating mobile security threats. Nearly 3.5 million of the over 10 million Android software samples scrutinized by the SophosLabs research unit in 2017, for example, proved to be either suspicious or malicious.
“Our Unified Endpoint Management solution can protect user productivity within a secure operating environment,” said Schiappa in prepared remarks. “Sophos innovation has led to endpoint protection based on deep learning technology to deliver market-leading levels of detection and prevention. Our vision is to extend that predictive security layer to all endpoints, including mobile devices, giving customers the most comprehensive security tools to maintain secure, productive working environments.”
The company shipped a major new release of Intercept X, its next-generation endpoint security solution, in January.
