Instead of installing new equipment, Layered Solutions integrates security and communication that the end user already owns. This was the exact solution that the Kingsway Regional and South Harrison Township Elementary School Districts were looking for due to being public schools on a tight budget.
The school districts wanted a way to reach multiple audiences instantly, bypassing distractions or communications barriers, with minimal delay or chance of human error, says Layered Solutions Vice President of Sales Rick Wagner.
“To make that possible, they needed to integrate disparate technologies they already owned to drastically increase their capabilities, each and automations on a very tight budget.”

Layered Solutions unified the school’s communications by using its own platform, which allows existing systems to communicate more effectively. Wagner explains that this enables greater automation and the ability for the customer to monitor and manage multiple systems from a central dashboard.
“In all, our integrations made it easier for the schools to spot, prevent and respond to suspicious activity or threats across their campus, facilitated everyday communications and reduced a slew of manual tasks for staff,” he says. Components integrated include fire alarms, cameras, intercoms, LED signage, PA, a mobile app and PC alerts.
School officials can now view suspicious activity or potential threats across the entire campus on a single dashboard and respond with a single click or two. The school district says the integrations have also shaved time off previously manual procedures and minimized the opportunity for human error.
“Other solutions were fragmented; you had some systems here, some there, and they didn’t integrate in one go-to dashboard,” explains Robert Iocona, CTO for the school districts. “With Layered Solutions, this is one system, with one central control location. I can go to one map, see where the cameras, fire alarms, lockdown buttons are, and I can initiate a lockdown from that map.”
