Monitor and Track the Process
A critical part of bringing technology into your classroom is monitoring your progress. While technology can be a valuable tool in the classroom, it can also be distracting, or take away from the lesson you’re trying to teach.
Monitor and track your use of technology using the following tactics.
Ask your students: Technology is most effective when students enjoy using it, which increases their engagement with the lesson and the material. Use Google Forms or live classroom polls to gauge student interest in the tools you’re using.
Create a review sheet: Create a sheet to track all the important metrics for your lessons, such as comprehension, engagement or homework turn in rates. While this process can be a bit manual, it will help guide you in making the best choices for your students.
Be Flexible
Ultimately, the most important thing every teacher needs to know about technology integration is that it won’t be easy all of the time. You need to be flexible as lessons go in a different direction or as students struggle with learning something you thought would be simple.
In the end, when you’re looking at a classroom of intelligent, engaged, tech-savvy students who are excited about learning, the work you put in will be worth it.
